My sentiments exactly

Came across this little blurb in my monthly Zumba newsletter, and really liked it. Thought I would share it with all of you. I am grateful for Zumba and the escape it provides for me, but I am more grateful my supportive students who make it all worth while. Each and everyone of you should really strive to use the one hour Zumba class to let go of inhibitions, and cares, and worries, and just let the music and movement overcome your body! It isn't about looking cute when you dance, or trying to copy my movements exactly, or anyone else's. It is about having one hour of you time, where you can be completely consumed by passion for music and dance, and forgetting about the hectic lives we lead!

Gratitude is a gift we give ourselves. It makes us feel happier and more peaceful. When we take a step back and really look at all that we have in our lives, we feel gratitude. That feeling of gratitude humbles us yet makes us stronger to go out and live our lives fully, leaving all fear, doubt and worry at the door.
Enter the Zumba program. Zumba class feels like an hour of living in the moment, and it is. In time, though, it becomes more than just an hour-long activity, it becomes a lifelong endeavor. The Zumba program is about expressing ourselves exactly as we are and loving every moment of what we do. Sure, there are steps to follow, shifts in rhythm, the warming up and the cooling down. But it teaches us and our students how to let go and enjoy. We let go in Zumba class and learn to let go in life. These are the moments when we feel most alive; and for these moments, we feel gratitude.

I need a fix!

One class last week has left me in serious need of a Zumba Fix!! How about you?! Be there tonight at 8:30 to curb that Zumba appetite, (and to work off the Thanksgiving appetite we satisfied all weekend long, stuffing our faces with dressing, turkey, yams, pie, and whatever else happened to make its way into our bellies!)
Also, don't forget to bring cash or check for the Zumba Wear I will have available to you! Tanks, cargo pants, and hip scarves. The best part- you can try on before you buy, and there is no S&H.
8:30pm tonight! Upstairs studio Pat Harris Dance School 1225 McKinney St.! See you there!

VIVA LA ZUMBA!!!
your adoring instructor,
Hilla

BEER FEST!! woop woop!

We did a one hour Zumba demo on both Saturday and Sunday at the Boise Beer Festival. They were awesome! I think the crowd really enjoyed them, and some fun-loving drunkies even got up and danced!
The only down fall- my car got towed on Sunday. :( Not even going to mention how much I paid to get it back.
I love that the Zumba-bug is finally biting the beautiful Boise folk! Thanks to all of my fantastic students for helping to spread the enthusiasm and share the Zumba Love! You all rule!

POWER ZUMBA ROCKED!!

Power Zumba has officially started! It is on Mondays from 8-9:30pm, and just ask anyone of the girls that was there last night, it was a killer workout! Glutes, thighs, calves, hams, shoulders, abs, we pretty much nailed the whole bod!
So join us next Monday at 8pm. for 90 minutes of hard working fun! Cost is $12 per class.

POWER ZUMBA to power out the summer!!

In order to finish the summer with a little extra push, for the next 4 Wednesdays I would like to offer a Power Zumba class: one and half hour Zumba classes that include more toning than our regular hour long classes.
They will be at Pat Harris Dance Studio from 8pm-9:30pm. They will cost $10/class if you pre-pay for all four, or $12/class if you drop in.
Here is the kicker- I am only going to do this if I have at least four students that will presign for all four classes, in order to cover my additional rent costs. SO- if you want to whip your booty into shape before the summer ends, talk to your friends and get them recruited. The more the merrier!
Leave a comment on the blog if you are interested, or call me, or facebook me, or email me....yikes! There are too many social networking venues!
FOUR PEOPLE! FOUR DEDICATED, MOTIVATED, WANT-TO-LOOK-THEIR-BEST PEOPLE!

Wednesday is only a preliminary day. If Monday works better for most, that would also work. Your call people!

Killer deal on shoes...

I found Nike Musique IV shoes- the kind with the pivot and non-marking soles, great for Zumba, at Sports Authority on Milwaukee for $50. They had another pair for $60, and a Musique III which would also work for $29!! This is a STEAL people! I paid $120 for my first pair.
If you need shoes....go there....NOW!!

FREE Salsa Class tonight!!

My friend Trino is offering a FREE Salsa class directly following my Zumba class tonight, and you are all welcome to stay for it! You do not have to have a partner to go, but it would be great if you did! So round up your husband, boyfriend, brother, whoever, and get them to come with you! I will not charge men for my class tonight.
You can just stay in your workout clothes for the Salsa class; although you may want to bring heels, its a little easier to dance in them. But tennis shoes are perfectly fine too, whatever you feel more comfortable in.
Don't miss this chance to soak up some authentic Salsa moves free of charge! See you and your new friend (male or female) tonight at 8:25pm- we are starting at 8:30 sharp since we can't go late tonight. Plan on staying until 10:30pm! (But you can leave anytime you need).
Ditch the workout, join the party!!!

VOTE!

On the poll in the side bar.

Zumba your way!!!

One of my most favorite things about Zumba is that everybody does it differently, and everybody is right!!! Zumba is about expressing yourself through dance, releasing tension and stress through dance, finding energy and inspiration through dance, and getting in shape through dance. It is NOT about being the most perfect, precise, professional, technical dancer. Not only do Zumba participants vary in skill level, shapes, and sizes, but ZUMBA instructors do too!

We are getting closer to the end of our first session, which means new dances are on the way pretty quickly. I would LOVE to see all of you take the last couple weeks with these songs that you are already comfortable with to do Zumba your way! Throw in an extra arm movement, change the hips, increase/decrease intensity to fit your style and your needs! GIVE IT YOUR FLAVOR! Take the hour to do you, and don't feel like you have to do every move my way. As long as your shaking it, everybody's happy!

You guys rock! I honestly love teaching you. I look forward to Tuesdays and Thursdays nights all week, and carry the energy you feed me throughout the remainder of the week. Thank you for being a part of my passion.

ZUMBA wear

Want to dress the part? Check out the shop on zumba.com. There are plenty of adorable tank tops, pants, shorts, t shirts, and accessories to fit your style. Let me know what you want, and I can get it for cheaper shipping, once I get an order big enough. So start shopping, tell your friends to start shopping, get me to STOP shopping, and lets put in an order!
Remember- zumba prizes in June... be there!

The first PRIZE!!!

As promised, June will be a month of fun and give aways. Here is the first challenge:

Whoever makes it to the most classes in June will win a little Zuma pride, to wear on your arm.
Be advised that class will be cancelled on Thursday June 18th, because I will be shaking my booty with BETO PEREZ!! Yes. You read that correctly- I will be at a Zumba Master Class in Salt Lake with the creator of it all. Weeeehooo!!

Thursday, May 14, 2009

Tis the month of May...

Which means the months of swimsuits, tank tops, and shorts are nearing with fierce speed! Get yourself ready the Zumbalicious way!! And watch for upcoming specials in the month of June! But you have to be there to partake!

Thursday's Class

Thanks to all the ladies that came Thursday! I felt pretty good about the class... the intensity was much better than Tuesday- where I continued to break down each song. SO next week I will not be breaking down songs. DO NOT let this discourage new comers, however. Just remind them that we do the same dances for 6-8 weeks, and it gets easier everytime they come back. I will also choreograph an additional warm up song that will preview all of the more difficult moves throughout the hour, so you won't feel totally clueless!

I am also hoping to get the routines recorded and added to the blog, so you can watch at home and know what is coming.

What should one wear to Zumba?

One of the most frequent questions I have received from new patrons is "what should I wear to Zumba?" Good question- here is your answer:

Whatever regular workout attire you feel most comfortable in! Something that is easy to move in, and something that allows for adequate ventilation and body breathing. It will be different for everybody, just be sure that it is supportive in the necessary areas (ladies you know what I mean)!

Shoes need to be supportive tennis shoes. However, there is a lot of cross lateral movement in Zumba, and you may find that older shoes with worn down traction are best- so long as they still have good support.

If you are looking to make a new investment for Zumba shoes- any jazz or dance tennis shoe would be your best option. I wear Nike's dance shoe, that has a pivot in the toe, for easier turning and torquing. They run anywhere from $98- $130, depending on where you buy. I just found them on Zappos for $98.10.
